Chandigarh : Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) Wednesday asked the Akali Dali-led government to arrange adequate water and power supply for paddy growers in the state.
“Earlier the wheat production declined in the state and cotton farmers have already suffered the set back due to shortage of water and power. Sweltering heat and dry canals have damaged the cotton crop at the first stage itself and the problem has been compounded as government has no arrangements for power supply to run tube wells,” said the PPCC spokesperson here Wednesday.
He said: “In several areas, the farmers had to cultivate their fields again. We demand compensation to the cotton farmers who have suffered due to inefficiency of the Akali government and want them to make adequate water and power arrangements for paddy crop.”
