Chandigarh : Information and Broadcasting Minister Ambika Soni and an Akali Dal candidate were Thursday elected to the Rajya Sabha from Punjab without a contest.
Following the scrutiny of nomination papers for the two seats of Rajya Sabha from Punjab, Soni (Congress) and Balwinder Singh Bhunder (Akali Dal) were declared elected.
“These seats had fallen vacant on the expiration of the terms of Ambika Soni and Raj Mohinder Singh. Ambika Soni and Balwinder Singh Bhunder have been elected and the certificates have been issued to them,” Punjab’s chief electoral officer Kusumjit Sidhu said.
