Chandigarh : Amid stray incidents of group clashes, nearly 80 percent voting was recorded Saturday in the second phase of elections for panchyati raj institutions in 12 districts of Haryana, an official said.
“The election was largely peaceful and no major untoward incident was reported except few stray incidents due to group clashes, resulting in damaging of EVMs and ballot boxes in seven villages having 28 booths,” said state Election Commissioner Dharam Vir.
“Re-poll may be ordered at these places, where some irregularities were reported. However, the exact number of polling stations where the re-poll is to be ordered would be determined after reports are received from the officials concerned,” said Vir.
Elections in the second phase Saturday were held at Ambala, Bhiwani, Fatehabad, Jind, Jhajjar, Kaithal, Kurukshetra, Mahendergarh, Sirsa, Sonipat, Mewat and Palwal districts.
During the first phase of the elections June 6, 70 percent polling was recorded.
