CPI-M asks Bengal ministers to speed up work

By IANS,

Kolkata : The West Bengal secretariat of the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) Saturday asked its ministers to speed up development work ahead of next year’s assembly polls.

“We discussed the reports given by various departments. We have also discussed ways for better coordination between various departments and ensure work is completed within targeted deadlines,” said CPI-M state secretary Biman Bose.

Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee was also present during the meeting.

Political observers feel the crucial meeting between the ministers and the CPI-M state secretariat is a desperate attempt to pace up the implementation of pro-people policies and development work to bring back the party’s waning support base.

The state’s CPI-M-led Left Front government has faced drubbings to the opposition Trinamool Congress in a series of recent elections.

Last year, the Left Front had to bite the dust in the general elections when its Lok Sabha tally from the state came down to 15 from 35.

The Trinamool Congress has even wrested the Kolkata Muncicipal corporation, besides putting up an impressive show in the municipalities in the just concluded civic elections.
