New Delhi: At 4,668 MW, the power demand in the Indian capital Monday rose to the highest level as Delhi reeled under a scorching and sultry summer.
“Monday’s demand surpassed the earlier high of 4,581 MW recorded May 24,” said an official of the BSES, which distributes power in the city.
The highest demand met last year was 4,408 MW — on July 8.
The BSES has urged people to use power judiciously and increase their sanctioned load to avoid tripping.
Following the increase in demand for power, some parts of the capital reported frequent power cuts.
The day temperature Monday settled at 44.1 degrees Celsius, five notches above the normal.
The capital simmered Sunday with the maximum temperature at 44.8 degrees Celsius – six degrees above average.
