BJP denies Nitish’s ban on Modi, Varun

By IANS,

New Delhi : The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Tuesday denied receiving any indication of the Janata Dal-United (JD-U) threatening to snap ties with it if party leaders Narendra Modi and Varun Gandhi campaign during Bihar’s assembly polls later this year.

“We have not received any such message from the JD-U on who will campaign and who won’t, This is for us (BJP) to decide who should or shouldn’t. We have not sought anybody’s advice on this either,” BJP spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain told reporters here.

Despite claims that its alliance with the JD-U is “intact” and “under control” by the BJP leaders, senior party leaders met twice Monday to discuss whether to continue with the coalition.

The party is set to hold its third meeting later in the day in the capital with the Bihar unit’s core group to decide its future with the JD-U.

“I will also be present at the meeting at 9 in the evening with the party president (Nitin Gadkari). Whatever decision we take, you will be informed,” Hussain added.
