New Delhi: The University Counseling & Guidance Centre of Jamia Millia Islamia in collaboration with Indian Association of Clinical Psychologists, North Zone is going to organize a workshop on “Providing Crisis Mental Health in Disasters” on June 25, 2010 from 10 AM to 2 PM in the Committee Room of Nehru Guest House, Jamia Millia Islamia.
The 4-hour workshop is designed to prepare psychologists, counselors and other certified/licensed mental health practitioners to respond to the emotional and psychological needs of people affected by disasters.
The topics of the workshop include: 1) Disasters and their Impact, 2) Psychological Crisis, 3) Standard Immediate Interventions, 4) Needs of Adults, Children and Families- Recovery Interventions, 5) Recovery Interventions, 6) Special Disaster Issues, and 7) Self Care During and After the Disaster.
The workshop would be conducted by Dr R. Kevin Rowell on behalf of University of Central Arkansas, American Psychological Association and Indian Association of Clinical Psychologists. Dr. Rowell is presently serving as an Associate Professor at the University of Central Arkansas.
Dr. Rowell is a certified trainer with the American Red Cross, a member of Disaster Response Network Committee of American Psychological Association, Disaster Response Coordinator of the State of Arkansas and president-elect of the Arkansas Psychological Association. He has been awarded “Volunteer” for the years 2008 & 2009 for his selfless service to disaster affected people for the past 12 years.
