Lok Sabha adjourned for the day

New Delhi : The Lok Sabha was adjourned for the day Monday following protests from members of Samajwadi Party (SP), Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and Janata Dal-United (JD-U) over the Women’s Reservation Bill.

As soon as the house met at 4 p.m. following its fourth adjournment, SP, RJD and JD-U members moved into the well of the house protesting against the bill. SP members Shailendra Kumar and Ghanshyam Anuragi tore a copy of the Women’s Reservation Bill that they were carrying.

SP leader Mulayam Singh Yadav and RJD leader Lalu Prasad also came to the well of the house to join the protesting members. Arjun Charan Sethi, who was in the speaker’s chair, adjourned the house for the day.

Protests from members of SP, RJD and JD-U continued in the house throughout the day over the government’s move to introduce the bill in the Rajya Sabha to provide 33 percent reservation for women in all legislatures forcing the adjournment of the Lok Sabha.
