Ranchi: A group of people protested here Wednesday against the proposed Green Hunt anti-Maoist operation, alleging it would lead to human rights violations.
The group, called the ‘Anti Operation Green Hunt Citizens Forum’, protested at the gate of the assembly here, raising slogans like “Stop Green Hunt. Stop using army against citizens of the country”.
“The government move to launch Green Hunt operation is condemnable and dangerous. Such operations violate human rights” said a statement issued by the group.
“By launching such an operation, the government is waging war against it’s own people. What happened in Lalgarh? The government should focus on development work and ensure employment for youths,” said Tridibh Ghosh, the convener of the group.
“We demand suspension of such operations,” he added.
On Monday, Jharkhand Chief Minister, Shibu Soren while replying to a question in the state assembly, had said that the inter-state offensive against Maoist would be launched in full spirit. Soren had also condemned Maoist violence.
