Panaji: A Bharatiya Janata party (BJP) legislator and former minister in Goa Tuesday appealed to the home minister to help an alleged drug peddler of Goan origin arrested by the Mumbai police.
Dayanand Mandrekar, a former agriculture minister, was speaking during a discussion on supplementary demands during the budget session of the Goa legislative assembly on Tuesday.
“These drugs were given to him by Israeli drug peddler David Griham alias Dudu. He (Savlo Salgaonkar) fell into the trap for a few rupees. The home minister should approach the Maharashtra government and help him get out of trouble,” Mandrekar said.
Salgaonkar was arrested in 2008, in which Griham was also arrested but later released on bail.
“If you can help this boy please do it,” the legislator, who represents the constituency of Siolim, known for drug-infested beach villages of Anjuna and Vagator, said.
Mandrekar also accused a police inspector already arrested for his nexus with the narcotics mafia of threatening “innocent” villagers and planting drugs on them.
“I had told you about (Inspector Ashish) Shirodkar two years back in the assembly,” Mandrekar said.
Shirodkar was arrested along with five other police officials for their links to Israeli drug dealer, Yaniv Benaim.
