New Delhi : Samajwadi Party MP Jaya Bachchan Friday refused to answer questions on the controversy over her husband Amitabh Bachachan’s visit to Bandra-Worli sea link function, saying he was capable of speaking for himself.
“I am not here to speak for him,” Jaya Bachchan told reporters during an interaction at the Indian Women’s Press Corps (IWPC) club.
Amitabh’s Wednesday visit to Bandra-Worli sea link inauguration function generated controversy after a section of Congress workers objected to his presence.
The Congress said Thursday that the Bollywood star was “identified with” Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi as he had agreed to become the state’s brand ambassador for tourism.
In fact, Jaya Bachchan appeared a little agitated over the question related to her husband, saying that she was interacting with the media on issues concerning her role as an MP or an actor.
The actor-turned politician also asked a journalist to leave the press conference for using a mobile phone.
Answering queries, the MP said she did not plan for the future and enjoys the present.
Jaya Bachachan, who will retire later this year from the Rajya Sabha, said she had happy memories of her term in the upper house of parliament.
“I have learnt a lot,” she said.
Answering another query, she said the impression about politics being a vocation for bad people was wrong.
“What makes you think politics is for bad people? I don’t think you are right,” she said.
