Patna: A court Saturday sentenced to life imprisonment three men convicted of murdering seven years ago engineer Satyendra Dubey, who exposed corruption in a national highways project.

A special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court passed the sentence against Mantu Kumar, Uday Kumar and Pintoo Ravidas of Katari village in Gaya district, about 100 km from here.

The court had convicted the three for the crime Monday.

Mantu was convicted for murder and causing hurt and under the Arms Act, an official statement said. The other two were convicted for murder.

Dubey, a 31-year-old graduate of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), was working with the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). He was posted with the highway project, Golden Quadrilateral.

Dubey detected that NHAI’s sub-contracting and quality control rules were violated at the Kodarma and Gaya stretches of the project.

He was murdered in Gaya Nov 27, 2003 after he wrote to the Prime Minister’s Office detailing rampant corruption in the project and exposing a nexus among corrupt officials, politicians and contractors.
