OSCE condemns Moscow metro attacks

Astana: The 56-nation bloc of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) Tuesday condemned the terror attack on a metro in Moscow that left at least 38 people dead during the Monday morning rush hour.

“I am deeply shocked by these inhumane attacks, and I condemn them harshly,” said OSCE chairperson Kanat Saudabayev, who is also Kazakhstan foreign minister.

“In this hour of sorrow, I offer my deepest sympathies to the families of the victims, and to the Russian people and government,” Saudabayev said.

The Kazakhstan presently holds the rotating chairmanship of the Vienna-based OSCE, whose 56 member countries include Russia and the US.

“Kazakhstan is confident that the potential contribution of the country towards regional stability, along with international security initiatives, will breathe new life into the interaction among OSCE participating states,” the foreign minister said.

“Kazakhstan attaches great importance to combating the new threats and challenges of the modern age, especially international terrorism, religious extremism and the various forms of illicit trafficking and organized crime.”
