New Delhi: To review the process and to draw a map for effective implementation of Scheme for Leadership Development of Minority Women, Ministry of Minority Affairs today organized an interaction with women organizations in New Delhi which was attended by representatives of a large number of women organizations from different part of the country.
The program was presided over by the Minister for Minority Affairs, Salman Khurshid while Dr. Syeda Hameed, Member Planning Commission and some women members of Parliament from the minority community were also present there.
In his presidential address, Salman Khurshid called upon the NGOs to put in their best to make this Scheme a big success as it will lead to the empowerment of a doubly disadvantaged group-Minority women.
While speaking on the occasion, Dr. Syeda Hameed appreciated the Ministry of Minority Affairs for the initiative taken for the scheme and has assured the full support of the Planning Commission in expanding the scheme in the 12th Five Year Plan.
The Scheme which has been launched on 27th January 2010 proposes to reach out to women through Non-Governmental Organizations / institutions who will be provided with financial support for conducting leadership development training in a village / locality and in residential government training institutes so that women are empowered and assume leadership roles.
Notably, an amount of Rs.480 million has been sanctioned for implementation of the scheme in the financial year 2010-2011. The scheme has aim to target 32,000 women in the first year and in the second year, 56,590 women.
