Islamabad : Pakistan is monitoring relatives of suspect of NY Times Square failed bomb attack suspect Faisal Shahzad but denied any arrest, country’s Interior Minister said Wednesday.
Interior Minister Rehman Malik said that family of Faisal Shahzad has been identified and most of the family members are on high positions.
“I am astonished as to how the terrorists had access to family of a high status,” Malik told reporters in Islamabad.
Rehman Malik said Shahzad last visited Pakistan in February. He has visited Pakistan ten times in seven years and had traveled to Peshawar and Karachi.
Malik did not confirm reports that the security agencies have arrested Shahzad’s father in law and another person. He said Pakistan has taken several measures and will take more after the US formally makes a formal request for cooperation and extends more information.
He said that the investigators have collected details of mobile phone, bank accounts and some other information and action will be taken after the US provides evidences and more information.
Faisal Shahzad belongs to Mohib Banda, a small village near Peshawar, the center of northwest Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa Province.
Faisal Shahzad studied in an army school in Peshawar. He moved to the US, for higher education in 1999. His father ‘Eba-ul-Haq’ has served as air vice marshal in Pakistan Air Force.
His wife Human Mia belongs to Mardan, a main city some 60 kilometers from Peshawar, the center of northwest Khyber Pakhtoonkha. She also has American citizenship and has two children. Shahzad’s father-in-law has lived in Saudi Arabia and then moved to the United States in 90s.
He got admission in Washington’s South Eastern University and later on changed university and gained a computer science degree from the University of Bridgeport, Kentucky.
He got his US citizenship in 2009 and has also gained a Master of Business Administration degree from the same univeristy.
Shahzad was leading an “American dream” life in New York, as a US news dispatch had reported yesterday before being arrested as the unsuccessful Times Square blast suspect.
