Sensex rises 1.26 percent at opening bell

Mumbai : A benchmark index for Indian equities Monday started off the week’s trade in the green, rising 1.26 percent, at opening bell.

The 30-scrip sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 16,799.49 points, was ruling at 16,980.48 points, 211.37 points or 1.26 percent higher than its previous close at 16,769.11 points.

At the National Stock Exchange (NSE), the broader 50-share S&P CNX Nifty was ruling at 5,088.05 points, a loss of 1.39 percent or 70 points from its previous close at 5,018.05 points.

Broader market indices were also in the positive with the BSE midcap index ruling 1.23 percent up and the BSE smallcap index trading 1.01 percent higher.
