However, the beginning of classes making use of the interim centre will be decided finally only tomorrow after the Higher Education Council held talks with the AMU VC Dr PK Abdul Azeez.
The government was able to bring to the state big investments of the centre in the field of education, Mr Baby claimed. The state has got about five central government educational institutions, beside the Aligarh Campus. The MPs of Kerala and the Prime Minister have helped a lot in bringing the Aligrah off-campus centre to the state, recalled the minister.
The minister also said that immediate measures would be taken to solve the problem of non-availability of seats in higher secondary in Malabar. He added that the matter would be discussed in the cabinet and with the Chief Minister and a decision be made. He was speaking at a function organized in Malappuram by left wing youth organisations in relation with the realization of the AMU campus in the district.
The interim centre for the Aligarh Regional campus in Kerala is arranged at the two-storey building in an 80-cent land near Perinthalmanna in Malappuram. The representatives of the AMU also had expressed their agreement to the interim centre. There is a meeting of the Higher Education Council and the AMU VC tomorrow in Thiruvananthapuram. The revenue, public works and electricity departments would submit a joint report on the interim centre, its facilities, access to road, rooms, availability of electricity and water, etc which would be discussed tomorrow.
The off-campus centre of the AMU in Kerala has become realized after a long ordeal of problems. There were problems since the selection of land to acquisition, which have not yet been fully solved. The problems that arose in connection with the second phase of land acquisition are yet to be solved under the leadership of the district Collector. However, the campus is supposed to be a revolutionary step in the path of educational development of Kerala, and especially Malabar.
