Lucknow : Five people were killed when a tractor-trolley overturned early Thursday in Uttar Pradesh’s Lakhimpur district, police said. The traumatised driver allegedly committed suicide after the incident.
Seven residents of Nailapur village in Lakhimpur were returning to their village after selling their wheat stocks when the tractor-trolley in which they were travelling spun out of control in Dharaura town, police said.
Five people were killed and the others with minor injuries were getting treatment in a hospital, police said.
The stunned driver of the tractor-trolley allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a roadside tree, they added.
“Prima-facie it appears the driver Siyaram (35) committed suicide as he was hurt by the five deaths,” police inspector Yogendra Singh told reporters in Lakhimpur, about 200 km from Lucknow.
“No injury marks were found on the driver’s body that was found hanging from a tree near the accident spot,” he added.
