No women officers in Delhi Police’s top posts

By IANS,

New Delhi : As the country debates reservation for women in parliament and state assemblies, cops have admitted that the top ranks of Delhi Police have no women officers.

In reply to an RTI filed by Delhi-based activist Subhash Chandra Agarwal, Delhi Police said the topmost ranks, including those of special commissioner of police, joint commissioner of police, additional commissioner of police and additional deputy commissioner of police, have no women officers. There are, however, three women officers in the post of deputy commissioner of police.

Admitting that it has been guided by the ministry of home affairs to induct women in at least 15 percent of the posts, Delhi Police says advertisements have been issued for vacant posts. At present, they have around seven percent women officers in the force.

Police said a proposal seeking as many as 2,783 posts for women has been sent to the home ministry for approval. In addition, an advertisement to fill 82 vacancies has already been published.
