New Delhi : The government should partner with private companies to set up an integrated security system at the local and national levels in view of rising threats from terrorists and left-wing extremists, says an industry lobby.
“Emerging security trends transcend public-private barrier and there is an imperative need to evolve a structured and regular interaction with the stake holders, both in the private and government sector, to effectively deal with the challenge,” said a joint study by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and software major HCL.
The report talks about the concept of a “Safe City”, which integrates technology with the existing security process and local security machinery such as police to offer a proactive system that aids in detection, prevention, and containment of threats, along with an effective response module.
“Security of key cities should be taken on a priority. All the mega-cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Kolkata, and Hyderabad should have an integrated security system installed at the earliest,” said Chandrajit Banerjee, director general of CII.
The report suggests conducting regular security audits based on which critical areas of concern could be identified and worked upon.
“Such a system will also aid in centralised decision-making and day-to-day operational activities like traffic management, crowd management,” said HCL Security chief executive Rothin Bhattacharya.
“Corporates can help in multifaceted ways. They will bring their large system integration experience here and will be able to develop large integrated systems. They can also help in getting their capital for the business,” said the report.
