New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) meetings with US President Barack Obama, whose India visit begins Nov 6, are yet to be finalised, party leaders said Monday.
According to sources in the main opposition party, there could be a meeting between Obama and a delegation of party leaders, which will include senior leader L.K. Advani and party president Nitin Gadkari. But US authorities had not yet given any details.
Though Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj is scheduled to meet Obama, it is still not certain when it will happen, an aide in her Parliament House office said.
“Under protocol, madam meets visiting dignitaries. So a meeting with President Obama is also expected,” the official told IANS.
Her colleague, Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley, is also likely to meet Obama but there are no details yet, a functionary at his residence said.
BJP spokesperson Nirmala Sitharaman added: “I will be able to clarify only by Tuesday.”
Obama will arrive in Mumbai Saturday on a four-day visit to India. He reaches New Delhi Sunday and will address MPs in the Central Hall of Parliament House on Monday.
