India, US share commitment to peace: Speaker

By IANS,

New Delhi: Terming US President Barack Obama’s speech to the members of the two houses of parliament as exceptional, Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar Monday said India and United States share a commitment towards peace.

In her vote of thanks after Obama’s speech in the central hall of parliament which was applauded by members of both houses, Meira Kumar said his speech was not only exceptional but had filled the air with dynamism.

“Some moments are recorded in history… this is that moment,” she said.

Referring to Obama’s election victory speech two years ago, Meira Kumar said he had mentioned that the US must play its role in ushering a new era of peace. Both the countries share commitment towards peace and need to work together, she added.

Meira Kumar said both India and US were affected by terrorism and appreciated Obama’s concern on the issue.

The speaker also greeted the “friendly people of US” on behalf of the MPs and the people of India.
