The warring groups attacked police personnel too with glass bottles when they reached to defuse the situation.

“Though both the sides resorted to firing, fortunately no one received bullet injuries. Ten people were hurt after they were hit by stones or wooden sticks,” police inspector Arjun Kumar said in Aligarh, some 350 km from Lucknow.

“We are still to ascertain the exact reason behind the clash. We learnt that it all started after a verbal duel between some villagers and security guards. All the injured are being treated in hospital,” he added.

Heavy security arrangements have been made in the Delhi Gate area following the clash, the official said.
