Islamabad : Brig Asim Bajwa, who had served as military secretary to then president General Pervez Musharraf, is among 23 Pakistan Army brigadiers who have been promoted to the rank of major general.
Bajwa, who is the man behind Pervez Musharraf’s book “In the Line of Fire”, is currently serving as the chief of staff to the commander of the Mangla Corps.
The News International reported that Bajwa served as military secretary to Musharraf before heading a brigade.
Army chief General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani chaired the meeting of Pakistan Army Selection Board that approved the promotion of 23 brigadiers.
Musharraf wrote in the preface of his autobiography: “Most of all, I would remiss if I did not express special gratitude to my staff officer, Brig Asim Bajwa, for his painstaking and laborious efforts of both recording my thoughts and then transcribing them. Without his efficiency and devotion to me, the arduous task of completing the book would have been difficult to achieve.”
Musharraf’s former assistant military secretary, Lt Col Ajab Khan, who is now serving as brigadier in the General Headquarters (GHQ), failed to get a promotion.
Musharraf ruled the country for nine year after taking power in a coup in 1999. He stepped down in 2008 and left Pakistan. He now lives in London.
