Orissa groups form human chain to protest child abuse

By IANS,

Bhubaneswar : Nearly 500 children and adults Friday formed a human chain near the state assembly here to protest child abuse.

The initiative was undertaken by various civil society groups on the occasion of the World Day for the Prevention of Child Abuse Nov 19. Various politicians, government officials, journalists, editors, film stars and athletes participated in the event.

The children and adults also launched a signature campaign to create awareness among the people on the issue.

“Every day, a child is being abused in some way in India. This means that an innocent adolescent is being tortured in a form that is verbal, emotional or physical,” said Ranjan Mohanty, secretary of the People’s Cultural centre (PECUC), a non-government organisation and one of the organisers of the programme.
