Haryana to set up eco-city in Manesar

Chandigarh: Formulating a policy on climate change, the Haryana government has proposed to set up an eco-city at Manesar near Gurgaon.

“We are also considering a proposal to set up a Climate Change Division in the Environment Department,” Chhatar Singh, principal secretary to Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, said Monday.

“The eco-city project is being developed on a pilot basis at the industrial model township at Manesar by a consortium of Japanese firms, he added.

The Haryana government has decided to lay focus on energy conservation in the industrial sector, which consumes 26 percent of total energy in the state.
