Shimla: Himachal Pradesh is to give cash awards totalling Rs.57 lakh to four shooters from the state – Vijay Kumar, Samresh Jang, Meena Kumar and Sonia Rai – who won medals at the Guangzhou Asian Games and the New Delhi Commonwealth Games, it was announced here Monday.
The state government had previously said sportspersons from the state who won a gold at any international event would get Rs.10 lakh, while silver and bronze winners would receive Rs.5 lakh and Rs.3 lakh.
Vijay Kumar would get a cash prize of Rs.41 lakh for winning three gold and one silver at the Commonwealth Games and two bronze at the Asiad, while Samresh Jung would get Rs.8 lakh for winning a silver and a bronze at the CWG.
Meena Kumari would get Rs.3 lakh for bagging a bronze at the CWG and Sonia Rai would get Rs.5 lakh for winning a silver at the Asian Games.
“The government would honour and award cash prizes to the medal winners at the statehood day function Jan 25, 2011,” an official statement Monday quoting Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal said.
