Mumbai : A benchmark index of Indian equities Wednesday shot up in early trade and was ruling 239 points higher within minutes of opening bell.
The 30-share sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 20,448.69 points, was ruling at 20,647.59 points, up 239.88 points or 1.18 percent from its previous close at 20,407.71 points.
At the National Stock Exchange (NSE), the 50-share S&P CNX Nifty was trading at 6,221.7 points, up 1.23 percent.
Broader markets were also among the gains. The BSE midcap was trading 0.52 percent up and the BSE smallcap index 0.64 percent higher.
