Beijing : China’s tourist destinations experienced a boom in business in the first week of October, during the National Day celebrations.

The 119 tourist attractions monitored by the country’s travel authorities posted a 15.91 percent rise year-on-year in combined tourist arrivals.

There were a total of 22.36 million tourists between Oct 1 and 7, known as the “Golden Week”, Xinhua reported citing the National Tourism Administration.

Income from these sites totalled 1.13 billion yuan ($168 million), up 26 percent from last year.

The People’s Republic of China was founded Oct 1, 1949, which is celebrated every year as the National Day. Its chairman Mao Zedong had declared the founding and had waved the first five-star national flag on that day.
