Sensex plunges to day’s low

Mumbai : A benchmark index of Indian equities Thursday slipped further some 40 minutes before closing bell as selling picked up in capital goods, energy and power sector stocks.

The 30-share sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 20,700.42 points, slipped to 20,463.32 points, down 224.56 points or 1.08 percent from its previous close at 20,687.88 points.

It had moved up 167 points to 20,854.55 points soon after the opening bell.

At the National Stock Exchange (NSE), the 50-share S&P CNX Nifty was ruling at 6,160.6 points, down 1.18 percent.

Broader markets were in the red too, with the BSE midcap index ruling 0.41 percent lower and the BSE smallcap index 0.51 percent down.
