Prosecution of armymen in 41 cases sought in Kashmir

Jammu: The Jammu and Kashmir government has sought prosecution of army personnel in 41 cases since 1990 under the Armed Forces Special Powers Act, an army spokesman said Saturday.

Thirtysix cases were sent for investigation and five were being probed, a spokesman of the Northern Command of the Indian Army said here.

Of the 36 cases sent for probe, the central government has not accorded permission to prosecute in 14, the spokesman said.

Two other cases were settled, the spokesman said. One case was referred back to the Jammu and Kashmir government.

The spokesman disclosed that the other 19 cases were under process at the army headquarters and the ministry of defence.
