New Delhi : Showers in various parts of the capital accompanied by strong winds and hail storm Friday evening took by surprise Delhiites who were suffering a continuing warm spell over the past month.
The meteorological department attributed the sudden change of weather to the development of a western disturbance in the north India region.
Areas like Mayapuri Chowk, Bhajanpura Crossing, Mandir Marg T-point, Metro Bridge near Kashmere Gate and several areas in Karol Bagh were waterlogged following the sudden sharp showers.
Residents in some areas moved out of their homes to enjoy the weather.
“It’s a pleasant weather. For last one month, it was quite hot and humid,” said Sudhanshu, a student visiting India Gate.
The India Meteorological Department has predicted rains Saturday also.
The maximum temperature Friday settled at 33.5 degrees Celsius, one notch above the average and the minimum temperature was 21.8 degrees Celsius, four notches above the average.
The rainfall recorded Friday between 8.30 a.m. to 5.30 p.m. was six mm. The humidity oscillated between 83 percent and 46 percent.
Delhi received a total rainfall of 1,004.2 mm this monsoon which was around 62 percent above the average.
