77 more dengue cases in Delhi

New Delhi : Delhi reported 77 more cases of dengue Wednesday, taking the total number of infected people by the mosquito-borne disease in the city this year to 980, an official said.

“Delhi reported 77 cases of dengue today (Wednesday)… although, no one died,” N.K. Yadav, chief medical officer of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) told IANS.

The total number of confirmed deaths due to dengue in the capital has now reached two. Three deaths due to suspected dengue have also been reported in the capital.

Delhi reported 548 cases of dengue in 2007, 1,312 in 2008 and 1,153 in 2009.

Dengue is transmitted by the bite of the Aedes mosquito. High fever for 4-5 days is usually accompanied by severe headache, pain in the eyes, muscles and joints, and rashes.
