Bangalore : The Queen’s Baton Relay for the Oct 3-14 Commonwealth Games in New Delhi reached Karnataka from Tamil Nadu Wednesday.
Hundreds of sports enthusiasts welcomed the baton at Kekkanahalli checkpost in Chamarajanagar district bordering Tamil Nadu, about 200 km from here.
Karnataka Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Goolihatti Shekhar received the baton from Tamil Nadu officials.
The baton was taken through Bandipur, Gunglupet and Nanajangud to reach Mysore where it will stay for the night after a relay run in the city. A cultural programme has been organised in Mysore Wednesday evening to mark the arrival of the baton in the state.
The baton will reach Bangalore Thursday. Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa will receive the baton at the Sri Kanteerava Stadium, an indoor facility in the city centre, and hand it over to former Olympian Kenneth Powell and badminton ace Prakash Padukone to lead the relay run in the city.
Cricketers Anil Kumble, Rahul Dravid and several other sports personalities will participate in the run.
