Court rejects petitions seeking deferment of Babri verdict

Lucknow:The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court hearing the case of the title suit in Ayodhya issue on Friday dismissed the applications moved for deferring the verdict in the case and exploring the solution through mediation. The verdict is slated for September 24. The bench also imposed a cost of Rs 50000 on Ramesh Chandra Tripathi, one of the applicants.

The bench comprising Justice Sudhir Aggrawal, Justice SU Khan and Justice Dhramveer Sharma dismissed the application. Justice Sharma however has reserved his verdict.

Earlier in an application moved by Ramesh Chandra Tripathi who is one of the parties (no. 17) has submitted that it is being contemplated that communal riots may erupt due to the verdict of the Ayodhya issue. He further submitted that in larger interest of the country, a round table talks with all the parties be held for settling the issue amicably.

The Bench maintained that Tripathi had no strong ground for moving the application as he never attended the proceedings of the case. The court also observed that the option of mediation between the two parites have been tried but in vain. It was also mentiond that Tripathi never came forward during the process of mediation in the case and was never present during the case for past 60 years. Hence the application was dismissed with costs to Tripathi. The judgment will be declared in Ayodhya issue as per schedule on September 24 at 3:30 pm.

Prior to it, an advocate Brijesh Shukla urged the bench to restrict the broadcasting in this sensitive issue. He submitted that some people wereengaged in slogan shouting outside the court premises. The bench directed the news channels and agencies to observe restrain while airing the news and confine them to the content as per the court.

The other two applications which were filed by the applicants namely Sunder Lal Jain, Ch. Ali Umar Qureshi and Sudesh Gupta, Dr Dhruv Sen Singh and Izhar Hussain, Lt Col Kuldeep Singh, Dr Sunil Pal, Dr Amit Singh for resolving the issue amicably were not entertained.
