AMU Murshidabad Center: Foundation stone on Sep. 26

Aligarh: It is a historic occasion that Aligarh Muslim University is extending its vistas for the first time in its 136 years history as foundation stone of AMU Murshidabad Center in West Bengal will be laid down on September 26, 2010.

The West Bengal Government has facilitated transfer of 288 acres of Farakka Barrage land from Water Resources Ministry to Aligarh Muslim University on September 3 this year. After that the Government of West Bengal and the university jointly decided to hold the Foundation Stone Ceremony at Ahiron, Murshidabad District.

Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee will be the Chief Guest of the function. The AMU dream project aimed at changing educational scenario of the region could not have seen the light of the day but for the keen interest and support extended by Mr. Pranab Mukherjee.

The Chief Minister of Bengal, Budhadeb Bhattacharjee will be laying the foundation stone for the Murshidabad AMU Center. The Chief Minister’s initiative and personal interventions was instrumental in removal of numerous roadblocks.

Prof. P.K. Abdul Azis, Vice Chancellor, Aligarh Muslim University, will preside over the function whose relentless efforts have ultimately brought into reality the establishment of the campus.

Other dignitaries who will be gracing the occasion including Mr. Pawan Kumar Bansal, Union Minister for Water Recourse Development, Mrs. D. Purandeshwari, Union Minister of State for Human Resource development.
