All-party delegation arrives in Jammu

By IANS,

Jammu : The all-party delegation led by union Home Minister P. Chidambaram reached Jammu, the winter capital of Jammu and Kashmir, Tuesday afternoon after having spent almost a day-and-a-half in Srinagar.

Like in the Kashmir Valley, the delegation, accompanied by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, is scheduled to meet a cross-section of people here ranging from political groups to Kashmiri Hindu migrants and traders. However, a major political group of the region, Jammu Kashmir National Panthers Party, has decided to boycott it.

The meeting is taking place at the chief minister’s official residence, which is encircled by a strong contingent of police and paramilitary troopers.

The 39-member delegation will be here until Wednesday morning, during which it will interact with different groups in a move to find a way out of the cycle of violence in the state which has seen 103 people killed since June 11 in firing by security forces on stone-pelting mobs.
