Thiruvananthapuram: The state police began taking precautions in the wake of the up-coming verdict on the Babri Masjid- Ram Janmabhumi case. A meeting of the higher police officers of the state was convened in the capital. The Samastha Kerala Jamiyathul Ulema urged people to follow the path of peace and self-restraint in the wake of coming court verdict. Meanwhile, BJP leader CK Padmanabhan stated that the party would not make the Babri verdict a matter of election campaign in the coming local body elections.
The meeting of higher police officers chaired by DGP Jacob Punnoose decided to take stringent action if there was effort on any part to create law and order problems or communal tensions in the state. Siby Mathews (Intelligence), P Chandrashekharan (ADGP), IGs and District heads of police took part in the meeting. The state would be under strict vigil for three days from September 23 to 25. 30,000 policemen would be deployed all over the state in those days. District Police Superintendents and Commissioners have been reportedly directed to put control over demonstrations and marches considering the conditions of each place. They should take the necessary measures discussing with the district Collectors.
Security would be tightened in public places, railway stations, bus stands and places of worship etc. Special care would be given to the coastal areas where police patrolling would be strengthened. The police may also make precautionary arrests in necessary places. The bomb squad and the anti-sabotage wing will be deployed in different places. Vehicles will be checked widely since 23rd. Strong measures would be taken against those spreading rumours as well as those pasting provocative posters. The public too can inform the police if they find anybody trying to create any problem by messaging to 9497900000 (Police Message Centre) or by calling high police officers directly.
All should be ready to move forward accepting the judicial system and rule of law in the country, said AP Aboobaker Musliyar, general secretary of the Samastha Kerala Jamiyathul Ulema in a press conference. Time has not yet arrived to forget the riots and political harvests that have taken place in the country in the name of the Babri Masjid. The state and central governments should take the necessary precautions seeing the possibility of riots. All sections of people should stand together to uphold the secular nature of the country. Different religious sections, political parties and governments should be able to rise to the occasion taking care not to let anybody construct walls between different religions. Syed Ali Bafaqi Thangal, Syed Ibrahim Khaleelul Bukhari Thangal, Ponmala Abdul Qader Musliyar, Perod Abdurahman Saqafi and NM Sadiq Saqafi also were present at the press conference held in Kozhikode.
Meanwhile, the BJP said it will not make the court verdict on the Ayodhya case an issue in the coming local body elections. Party leader CK Padmanabhan said that the issue won’t be raised in the elections, whatever be the court verdict.
