Lucknow: The president of the Uttar Pradesh state unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Surya Pratap Shahi Wednesday accused Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh of making irresponsible comments ahead of the Ayodhya verdict to garner support from the minority community.
“The comments made by Digvijay Singh against the BJP, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) in connection with the Ayodhya dispute intend to appease minority community,” Shahi said here.
“Such comments are really disgraceful and can vitiate the peaceful atmosphere ahead of the verdict… It’s the duty of political leaders to ensure peace and harmony during this phase. So, the Congress general secretary (Digvijay Singh) should also restrain from making such comments,” he added.
Singh said in New Delhi Monday that he cannot trust the BJP, RSS and VHP on the Ayodhya dispute as “they could do anything”.
Shahi alleged that Congress, Samajwadi Party (SP) and the ruling Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) were making every effort to politicise the Ayodhya issue “to gain political mileage”.
“All the three parties look at the Ayodhya issue with a political angle… They all are vying to use it for their vote bank politics,” said Shahi.
A three-judge special bench of the Allahabad High Court is scheduled to pronounce the verdict in the Babri Masjid-Ramjanmabhoomi dispute Sep 24.
