Thiruvananthapuram: The strict restrictions including the clamping of prohibitory orders in several districts have been removed in Kerala on the postponement of the court verdict in the Babri Masjid – Ram Janmabhumi title suit. The extra security arrangements put in force in the wake of the court verdict have been withdrawn, informed DGP Jacob Punnoose.
The prohibitory orders clamped by the respective Collectors in the districts of Thiruvananthapuram, Kottayam, Alappuzha, Pathanamthitta, Idukki, Kozhikode, Palakkad and Kannur have been removed. The restrictions put on public programmes for a week in Kasargode district have not yet been withdrawn, according to reports.
DGP Jacob Punnoose reportedly informed media persons that though the restrictions and security arrangements have been withdrawn, strict vigil would continue. The state had arranged strict measures to maintain peace and calm. Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan had last day stated in a press conference that the police would take stringent action on any move to create problems from any part.
A high-level meeting of the DGP and other police officers was held in the state capital earlier this week to discuss on the precautionary measures to be taken in the wake of the Allahabad court verdict. The whole police force in the state were planned to be in duty in the week. District Police Superintendents and Commissioners were directed to put control over demonstrations and marches considering the conditions of each place. They should take the necessary measures discussing with the district Collectors. Security would be tightened in public places, railway stations, bus stations and places of worship etc. Special care would be given to the coastal areas where police patrolling would be strengthened. The police may also make precautionary arrests in necessary places. The bomb squad and the anti-sabotage wing would be deployed in different places.
