Work done but more needed at CWG village: Fennell

By IANS,

New Delhi: Commonwealth Games Federation chief Mike Fennell said Saturday that “considerable” work has been done in the Commonwealth Games Village, but some concerns relating to cleanliness remained. He praised the food for the athletes as “excellent”.

“Considerable amount of work has been done, but there are concerns which remain, mainly related to cleanliness,” Fennell told reporters after an inspection of the Village.

“The chef-de-missions have criticised the preparations but their attitude is positive, they have been assisting by preparing their teams. All are dedicated to the Games,” he said.

Appreciating the efforts, Fenell said: “The international centre is finished and in good shape. The food is excellent which is very important for preparing athletes.”

Fennell said a detailed inspection report will be given to him by Saturday evening. He will closely monitor the situation.

The condition in the village had a few days ago been described as “filthy and unlivable”.

Some 7,000 participants and officials from 71 teams are expected to attend the Oct 3-14 Commonwealth Games, India’s biggest sporting event after the 1982 Asian Games.
