Bihar Election: Congress 1st list angers local leaders

By TCN Staff Reporter,

Patna: Though Congress in its first list of 77 candidates released on 27th September tried to give representation to all sections of the people, there are many local party leaders who expressed outrage as they or their supporters were denied tickets.

In Barharia constituency of Siwan district several people attached to Congress expressed anger against party decision to field S.S. Fazle Haque instead of Abdul Fattah who had contested Assembly elections two times unsuccessfully – once at the Congress ticket. Local people blamed that Party high command has ignored the grass-root leader and gave ticket to a candidate which may cause divide among party workers.

Similarly, Sarwat Jahan who was in row to get Congress ticket from Bajpatti constituency of Sitamarhi district also opposed party decision to field Gajadhar Thakur from here. She said that Muslims are in large number here but party has given ticket to a Brahman whose community is in little number. The constituency has 32.98% Muslim voters.

She also claimed that most of those Muslims leaders who were given party tickets have no command on public and they will surely lose. She also announced to agitate before Congress president Sonia Gandhi.

On the other hand, the list angered Sadhu Yadav whose supporters were not given tickets as he was expecting. He alleged that candidates with mass support were ignored while newly joined people were given tickets. To register his protest he resigned from the party’s election campaign committee.

Similarly, Lovely Anand, wife of former MP Anand Mohan, who has been allotted Congress ticket from Alamnagar constituency, also seems unhappy as she openly criticized some party leaders for denial of tickets to her supporters.
