Patna: There is no doubt that peace and communal harmony are the most essential things that the country needs now. Kashmir has been burning for months and the court verdict on the Babri Masjid-Ram Janmabhumi title suit has just come. In such a circumstance, the Confederation of Voluntary Associations (COVA) is making its own efforts for the good of the country and people on Gandhi Jayanthi. It has planned to organize simultaneous prayer meetings and candle light vigils for ‘communal harmony in the country and just peace in Jammu and Kashmir’ from 6 pm to 7 pm on October 2 in different cities and towns all over the country.

The association has requested groups and organizations to offer to facilitate the event in their respective town or city by associating with other groups and organizations. The facilitators are requested to invite the members of the Parliament and the Assemblies in the respective areas, besides religious leaders of different faiths.

The COVA informed that many organizations in different cities and towns have come forward to organize the event. Several towns and cities from Srinagar to Nellore will reportedly host the event on October 2. Other organizations too can contact those who have already planned the event and can join them. Those organizations wishing to organize the programme at their places can contact the COVA with details of city/town, venue, facilitating organisation and contact details. The COVA can be contacted at [email protected]

The COVA is a national network of voluntary organizations dealing with the issues of social harmony, peace and justice. Its prime focus is on citizenship rights and on perspective-building for harmony and peace in South Asia. Through direct programmes and by networking with other CSOs, COVA organises perspective building activities and programs, carries out
campaigns, and conducts research for influencing diverse sections of
civil society and the state apparatus to adopt inclusive, secular and
egalitarian outlook and policies that would foster rights and secure
justice and peace for all.
