Lucknow : The night sky lit up with fluorescent sparks and ecstatic shouts of “India is world champion” filled the air as people in this Uttar Pradesh capital celebrated India’s victory over Sri Lanka in a high-voltage World Cup final in Mumbai.
Irrespective of age groups, people danced to the beat of drums in several localities, including Aliganj, Vikas Nagar, Hazratganj and Jankipuram to celebrate India’s victory. Women also joined the celebrations and participated in the “victory marches” taken out in several areas of the city.
“We are sure not only Mumbai, the entire country will not sleep today…The celebrations would continue all through the night,” said Mukul Saran, a resident of Vikas Nagar area.
Youngsters were seen dancing atop cars, shouting slogans in favour of India.
“We have shown the world and proved ourselves…It’s now the time to celebrate…We cannot put our feelings into words…It is one of the proudest moments of the country,” said Akhilesh Chandra, a resident of Aliganj.
