Hyderabad: Scholarships were distributed to 72 students of the PAWMENCAP (Parents Association for the Welfare of Mentally and Physically Handicapped) in Hyderabad, informed the PAWMENCAP in a press release. The scholarships worth Rs 2,00,000 (USD 5000) were distributed to the students from very poor families at a function organized on March 12, 2011. The students have also been sponsored by the Equallyable Foundation of USA.

The institution provides vocational training in different trades to about 250 mentally retarded children/ persons. Many of them belong to very poor families, and their disabilities include mental retardation, cerebral palsy and autism etc. Some are so severely disabled that they cannot even perform their routine physical needs. The institute serves the children providing them the required training so as to make them capable of attending to their daily needs on their own, the PAWMENCAP said in its press release.

The Association was registered in 1988 and the school began in 1990 in Humayunnagar in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh. The institution is dedicated to the prevention, early intervention, education, vocational training, socialisation and assisted living for the children it takes cares of. The organization also reportedly works on issues of social acceptability for differently-abled individuals.
