Sri Lanka to increase flights to Britain

By IANS,

Colombo : Sri Lanka will increase the number of weekly flights to Britain from 14 to 21, Xinhua reported Thursday.

Civil Aviation Minister Priyankara Jayaratne, who made the annoucement, said the aim is to attract more tourists from Britain.

Sri Lanka has seen an upsurge in tourist arrivals since the island-nation put an end to the three decades-old conflict with Tamil Tiger rebels in May 2009.

Some 650,000 tourists arrived on the island last year, and the figure is expected to increase by 100,000 this year.
