‘Corruption flourishing due to people’s indifference’

Ghaziabad : Terming Uttar Pradesh the next battleground against corruption, the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) said Sunday that the common people’s indifference to politics was the reason for the malaise.

“People of Uttar Pradesh are the biggest victims of corruption. Corrupt bureaucrats are being encouraged in the state because the 60 percent of the people including intellectuals, professionals and academicians are not only keeping themselves away voting but also isolating themselves from the politics,” newly-appointed state chief Hardev Singh Baba said.

He said the party appeals to the people to come forward to join politics, otherwise “corrupt and dubious characters would fill the gap”.

Citing the fast at Jantar Mantar by social activist Anna Hazare for a strong anti-graft law, Baba said the agitation’s success points towards the hidden anger among the masses.

A former bureaucrat who in served the state for about 35 years, Baba said he knew the very core of corruption in the state and 2012, when assembly polls are scheduled, would witness the biggest offence against it.

Baba was here to address the public meeting at Pilkhuwa and Meerut Sunday and Monday.
