Little known Valthaty single-handedly wins it for Kings XI

Mohali : Little known Paul Valthaty slammed an incredible century to lead Kings XI Punjab to the biggest successful chase of the Indian Premier League against defending champions Chennai Super Kings at the Punjab Cricket Association Stadium here Wednesday.

Valthaty raced to 120 not out in 63 balls as Kings XI Punjab chased down the 189-run target with six wickets and five balls to spare. It was the the first hundred of this season and 13th IPL century overall.

Mumbai’s Valthaty, who made his IPL debut in 2009 playing for Rajasthan Royals, smacked 19 fours and two sixes completely overshadowing the breezy innings of none other than Mahendra Singh Dhoni (43 off 20 balls) and Murali Vijay (74 off 44 balls). A staggering 88 of Valthaty’s run came off just 21 balls.

Valthaty, 27, was a member of India’s U-19 2002 World Cup squad which featured the likes of Irfan Pathan and Parthiv Patel.
