Lucknow: Expressing concern over the killing of innocents in Libya, Bahrain and Yemen, eminent Shia cleric and Imam-e-Juma Maulana Kalbe Jawwad announced to hold a protest march in New Delhi on Sunday. The march will begin from Rajghat and will culminate at Jantar Mantar.

“Despite repeated memorandums there has been no stopping to the killing of innocents in Libya, Bahrain and Yemen. Both the US-led NATO forces and the forces of Saudi Arabia are unleashing terror in the region.

The Saudi forces are killing innocents in Bahrain and also demolishing the mosques,” he said. The cleric also claimed that after the protest march a memorandum would be handed over to UN authorities in New Delhi.

“We planned to extend our protest march till the UN office in Delhi but permission was not granted. We will thus hold it from Rajghat to Jantar Mantar,” said Jawwad.

Responding to a query, Jawwad stated that the ban on burqa by the French government was a shame on the Muslim countries that have become spineless. “They should snap all diplomatic ties with France. This is an infringement on our religious practices. I request the French Muslim women to come out on roads in large numbers wearing the burqa and defying the ban. Let the authorities arrest and impose fine. If they are outnumbered it has to be revoked,” said Jawwad.

Regarding the convention on Saturday demanding respectable salary for the Imams of mosques, he informed that it would be held at Baradari in Qaiserbagh which will be attended by Imams of mosques from all sects of Islam. He also did not rule out the possibility of again approaching the court for implementation of the apex court’s directives.

Meanwhile, a member of the Shia Waqf Board, Kunwar Iqbal Haider, who was present at the announcement, informed that the Board was in dire state and hardly had money for salary to its employees. He added that it was due to the neglect of the state government. “There is no CEO in the Shia Waqf Board which is hampering the financial functioning of the Board. I had met the Prime Minister and he assured Rs 5 crores towards the financial viability of the Board,” said Haider.
