New Delhi : Three of the four men who kidnapped and murdered an elderly woman to grab her property in west Delhi have been arrested, police said Thursday.
“Mukesh Rai, 20, along with his friends – Niraj Tyagi, 30, Kishore Kumar, 25 and Saurav – kidnapped and killed his landlady, Bimla Devi, 65, a resident of Palam Colony,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police A.K. Ojha.
Rai was arrested from New Delhi Railway Station Wednesday and subsequently Tyagi and Kishore Kumar were arrested from Palam Colony, while Saurav is still absconding, he said.
Bimla Devi did not have a legal heir and Rai and his friends strangled her and then dumped hbody at Bilaspur in Gurgaon area in Haryana in November last year.
Earlier, Rai stole the property papers from her and got the property fraudulently transferred to his name.
He was caught after society members grew suspicious at the absence of both Bimla Devi and Rai, and when some people came to her house, claiming they had bought it.
During interrogation, Rai told police that he was living as a tenant in the house adjacent to Bimla Devi’s.
“After coming to know that she has no legal heir, he shifted to her house as tenant and earned her trust. He discussed his plan with Kishore Kumar, who ran a grocery shop in the area, and Tyagi, another shopkeeper,” said Ojha.
Tyagi then introduced Rai to Saurav, a bank loan agent.
“Saurav asked Rai to obtain the original documents of property. Rai stole the documents from her house. On Nov 16, 2010, the four brought a woman resembling Bimla Devi to a sub-registrar’s office and got the property transferred in Rai’s name. Nine days later, they killed Bimla Devi,” said Ojha.
